Saw the movie. Here's my very brief review:
Almost more like a buddy cop movie than a teen comedy in terms of structure, "Wedding Crashers" pairs two main characters who want drastically different things from life but are forced to stay together on their mission through a code of "ethics." Jeremy Klein (Vince Vaughn) and John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) are an aging pair of lawyers who routinely crash weddings to pick up vulnerable, willing young girls recently infused with a heightened sense of romance. Both of them are nearing roué status, and they know it.
The movie is quite funny and enjoyable, as both Wilson and Vaughn are very charismatic actors who engender both sympathy and empathy quite easily. The film is not as heavily stocked with jokes as, say, "Dumb and Dumber," but the likeable personalities allow the movie to coast along easily and it is quite hilarious at times. Christopher Walken is, as usual, very funny in his role as the forbidding father.
The most grating aspects of the film for me were the soundtrack, which was heavy on cheesy singer-songwriter schlock from Jack Johnson knockoffs, and the ages of the female leads. The casting for girls to play opposite the 35 year old V.Vaughn and 36 year old O.Wilson (who know they are getting old for this wedding game they play) is a glaringly young-looking Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher. Watching the film, one would think the girls had just exited high-school, or were at most college sophomores, making their romantic... wooings or whatever by the mid-30s men really creepy. O.Wilson does not look anything less than his age up close.
However, it appears that the women do. McAdams, who most recently played a high-schooler in last year's "Mean Girls," and looks the part, is actually 28. Fischer, who looks even younger, is 29 and engaged to Ali G. So it looks a lot creepier than than the old guys hitting on young girls that work at the Orange Julius stand in the mall that it often appears to be.
Aside from the casting thing, there are some good lines and the movie, if quite routine and obvious in overall plot, is funny and worth a shot. Much better than "Anchorman."
